A typographic system designed for a university project based on a retrospective of Ralph Hotere, one of New Zealand's most significant artists.

I grew up alongside Hotere's large works of art, his studio was in my hometown. His work was some of the first art I encountered as a child and it shaped how I approached this project.

This project pairs essays and a detailed chronology with Hotere's paintings at scale. The dust jacket was designed to be experienced in person, dark modular shapes with undulating texture are reminiscent of Hotere's compositions and appear and quietly disappear the longer you look.
